Hello and Welcome to Bakes by Hannah! We have a new website home, so feel free to read the about section for some information on who I am; just a little hint, I love baking. My passion for baking started around five years ago and it hasn't wavered since. Although Cakes, Cookies and Tray Bakes have been, and will continue to be, my favourites to create, I'm determined to challenge myself with different recipes, techniques, flavours and decorations.
Throughout the upcoming months, I will be making themed bakes varying from sweet treats to savoury specials. From the pictures below, you can probably see the array of bakes I've achieved, but also the progress I've made along the way... I can't count the number of times I've finished a bake and haven't been happy with the outcome, but when I really reflect on my previous creations, I can clearly see my development of presentation and skills. It's a miracle how I can achieve the end result of a bake when the making of it goes wrong. To add to this, it takes about 500 pictures before I find the perfect one, but I guess it's worth it in the end. I want to try and be less critical of myself and embrace the mistakes I make along the way; this way, I can learn from them and hopefully you can too!
Some of my favourite bakes are my most spontaneous ones. You know when you walk through the door after a busy day and just feel the need to bake? That's where I thrive! When I started University last September, I wanted to try and bake as much as possible. Luckily, my flatmates are more than happy to accommodate my 'organised chaos', as long as there's a cake for them to eat afterwards. One of my cupboards at University is fully dedicated to my baking supplies (I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing). As I'm feeling more organised and motivated this year, or as much as I can be, I'm going to be adding a little twist to my bakes... Once a month, I will be baking with a mystery ingredient picked by one of my flatmates and see whether I can incorporate it into a bake well or not. At the end of the day, baking brings me relaxation, but also allows me to have fun and be experimental with new flavours, techniques and colours. Some of the upcoming themes include Tray Bakes, Desserts, International Recipes and Biscuits. Despina, my flatmate, can vouch that I'm very excited to get started properly and get into the swing of things. Herself and her boyfriend, Jack, helped me from the very beginning of this new concept, and will be joining me along the way (I'm eternally grateful for you guys!).
Enough about me and my previous bakes, let's get onto the future blog itself. For me, the kitchen is my safe place where my stresses just disappear... I want to transfer this to my blog too. I want you, the reader, to come and read these blogs to not only learn some new tips and tricks, but to also relate and laugh a little too. As a student on a budget, I, myself, would find it helpful to have the prices of the ingredients, so that's what I'm going to (try) incorporate into each blog. Since starting University, I've become very money conscious, so I feel like the addition of these prices will not only help you out, but also keep me on track of my spending too.
You're probably thinking "finally, she's wrapping this introduction up", don't worry, I won't be much longer. I hope you enjoy reading Bakes by Hannah and keep coming back for my weekly posts. I'm so excited to experiment and share my experiences with you all, even if I create some chaos on the way. Make sure you subscribe to stay up to date with my mishaps and (im)perfections...
Lots of Love,
Hannah x
