Happy Halloween...

So today is Halloween and I made a cake especially themed for it. I actually made this cake a few weeks ago before I went to uni. I wasn’t sure how much room I would have at uni so I’ve been keeping this cake a while but I loved how it came out. I didn’t really have much of a plan and admittedly the stripes didn’t work how I wanted but I still loved this spooky cake. I’ll keep this blog short and sweet I just wanted to share what actually happened to this cake.

I don’t think I’ve ever made a chocolate drip cake and Halloween seemed like the perfect opportunity. This cake was made up of 4 6inch cakes, that I had baked and let cool. The look I was originally going for was orange, purple and black stripes as you can tell they didn’t exactly come out cleanly. The main thing I liked about this cake was the drip, which I didn’t think was bad for a first attempt. After a failed glass test using just purely melted chocolate, I made a chocolate ganache instead and coloured it green. For this I just searched a white chocolate ganache recipe and coloured it green. I let it cool and dripped it down the front half of my cake.

This was my random Halloween cake and I decided to add some eyes don’t ask me why but I loved them on this cake. The top looked so bare so I filled it using the colours of the side and piped different patterns to fill the top. I finished it off with a sprinkle of glitter. This at the time was the perfect little pumpkin spiced Halloween cake. We cut some slices out for my family and I thought nothing more of it. I’d got my photos and I was very to enjoy some cake.

This is where things get creepy. The cake was nowhere the end of the table in the kitchen. We are all happily sitting having our cake in the living room when we hear a noise. We have no clue what it is but I get up and the remaining section of my cake is lying on the floor. It fell in such an unnatural way and even if it ‘just fell’ the heavier section was facing towards the middle of the table so it should never have fallen the way it did. It’s safe to say it wasn’t possible to get many more slices from it and my dad convinced me the cake was possessed. So that was my little Halloween story this year. I’ve always said Halloween is one of my favourite times for baking and this year has been the most effort I’ve put into it, Halloween cupcakes, brownies, cakesicles and my monster cake. I’m going to have to get thinking how I can improve next year’s Halloween selection. I hope you have a Spooktacular but safe Halloween.

Lots of love,

Hannah xx
